Women can only gain so much muscle. We don't have as much testosterone as men, and therefore can't build like they can, even though we might try really hard to accomplish that. I know. I'm 5'4" and build my legs with 235 pound bar bell free squats and my legs are just beyond chicken at this point. I tell you this because you need to know that you don't have to worry about building too much muscle unless you have an overabundance of testosterone in your system. You'll know if you have it as you will have a deeper voice, more facial hair and more muscle than most women.

So, if you can only gain so much muscle, you can only raise your resting metabolism so high. The rest has to do with how you eat (the right kinds of food boost metabolism) and your caloric input (less calories = less chance to be stored as fat). As a 5'4" female at ~13% body fat, I weight 125 pounds. I'm tiny, but weigh more than you think. In addition, I help women lift weights all day long, and have the (good!) constant stress of managing a thriving business. In short, I have a high metabolism, but I really have to watch what I eat, and so do you if you want to be lean!

We head out on vacation a week from Friday. I tried on my swimsuits yesterday and feel great in them! Thanks for all your help, advice and eating recommendations. Your "fat burning machine" book was a major help. I'm down to 120 - though was not trying to loose any weight (though some of that may be my recent bought with bronchitis). Will measure my body fat tonight, but am sure it is at the best level in a long time - if not the best ever.

My abs are almost where I want them to be. I've got about 4 or 5 more weight workouts between now and the time we leave, if I can kick this last little bit of fat on my butt, I might even wear a thong in the islands!
